Van Nest Assembly of God
2nd Annual Memorial Service for the Unborn
New York State Rev. Ruben Diaz
February 4, 2005

Good evening brothers and sister, ladies and gentlemen.

I am State Senator Ruben Diaz.  I represent the 32nd Senatorial District here in Bronx County.  I am also an Ordained Minister of the Church of God with headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee and the Pastor of Christian Community Neighborhood Church located at 1437 Longfellow Avenue.

Tonight I feel privileged to have been invited to speak about the Unborn in America, the destruction of a fetus, and the right to life. I would like to start with a question: Is a fetus a life? What is an abortion? An abortion is the termination of a pregnancy and the destruction of a fetus.

Before January 22nd, 1973, a day of infamy in American history, abortions were illegal in most states and were only performed for extreme circumstances. In 1970, Sarah Weddington, a young Texan lawyer filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of a pregnant Texan woman named Norma McCorrey under the alias Jane Roe.  The purpose of this lawsuit was to overturn the State of Texas anti-abortion laws.  The lawsuit charged that the laws were unconstitutional and that they violated women's rights under the first, fourth, fifth, ninth and fourteenth Amendments of the United States Constitution. Dallas District Attorney Henry Wade was the defendant of the case; Jane Roe against Henry Wade  therefore the case is known as Roe v. Wade.

Every year since that day of infamy, January 22nd 1973, there have been approximately 1.5 million abortions in America.  In thirty-two years, at the rate of 4,000 babies each day, we will have killed and slaughtered 48 million American citizens.

Is a fetus a life?  The abortionists say, "Well, they are not really children. The fetus is just a blob of tissue." What does God say about that?  The Bible says in Leviticus 17:11 "For the life of the flesh is in the blood."  And verse 14 says "For it is the life of all flesh: the blood of it is for the life thereof."  God is the giver of life. He says that where there is blood, there is life.

Abortion is the American Holocaust. I want to compare Adolf Hitler and the holocaust to what is happening to abortion in America. The comparison is plain: six million Jews were exterminated by Hitler in Germany; almost 48 million babies were exterminated in America's abortion clinics.  We have simply been killing for a longer period of time. Hitler believed that Jews were not human beings.  In America, abortionists believe that the fetus is not a life. Hitler killed Jews in mass. America is killing babies at a rate of 4,000 per day. Hitler used the ashes of the Jews to make bars of soap.  In America, abortionists in America sell fetal tissue to be used in: the manufacture of cosmetics as well as for medical research.  What is the difference?

Do not point your finger at Hitler - we are worse. Do not look at Joseph Mengele's medical experiments on Jewish children and say that you are shocked.  Our abortion clinics are doing the exact same things. There is a price for harming life in the womb of the mother.

The Bible says: "If men strive and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit departs from her, so that she has a miscarriage or aborted pregnancy, and yet no mischief follows.  He should be punished according to the woman's husband, and if any mischief follows, then he should pay a life for a life."

God says here that if you hurt a pregnant woman and she loses the baby, you have to pay a penalty not because it was a blob of tissue, but because it was a life.  The prophet Isaiah says that "The Lord has called me from the womb, from the matrix of my mother he has made mention of my name . And now says the Lord who called me from the womb to be his servant."  Isaiah 49:1,5.

The right to life is older than the Constitution.

Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence about the right to life.  He said "we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by the creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." According to the Declaration of Independence, the right to life is a
divine right.

Finally, how can we stop the slaughter of unborn babies?

First: Stop voting for politicians who are pro-abortion.  Now you can imagine why our government is in such chaos and confusion.  It is because our legislators and judges are in violation of the word of God. President Harry Truman once said:  "A group of donkeys could not have Washington in a greater mess than what it is now." and Ollie North calls Washington "Sodom on the Potomac."

Second:  When the Evangelicals learn to get involved and start going to the voting booth, then we will see a change.   Could you imagine 40-60 million Evangelicals voting for pro-life candidates in America?  When that happens, no President, no Senator, no Congressman will get to Washington without the Evangelical vote.

Third:  Forget being politically correct by being Pro-Choice. Let me tell you something:

*Hitler was pro-choice.  He chose to send the Jews to Auschwitz.  That was not the Jews' choice, that was Hitler's choice.

*Murderers and assassins are pro-choice.  They choose to put a gun to your face and blow your head off.  That is not your choice, that is their choice.

*The baby in your womb will not choose the saline solution that will burn his skin away nor will he choose the forceps that will crack his little head off.  That is not his choice, that is your choice.

Some of you listening to me may have had an abortion in the past. I am not trying to put a guilt trip on to you or place you under condemnation. God can and will forgive your participation, willing or unwilling in an abortion.  If you have not asked him before now I pray that you will.  God loves you and wants to restore you and wants to reunite you, one day, with that aborted child in the eternity.

God bless you, God bless America, and God bless all the pro-life people in the world.
